The best way to answer the question "What is Reiki?" is to let you experience it for yourself through a short demonstration.
Try putting your palms about an inch away from your cheekbones. If you have any sensations? A feeling of warmth, a pulse, or a reassuring feeling?
The "Universal Energy" flowing out of your hands and through your cheeks is "Universal Energy."
Reikiis a technique for healing that involves tapping into the Universal Energy that exists inside and around you, channeling it through your hands and into specific areas of the body.
  • It can be used for self-healing or for the healing of others.

What Happens During A Reiki Healing Session?

The idea of a healing session can be a little mysterious and overwhelming if you've never tried Reiki before.
Is it similar to a massage? Is this a counseling session? Is it necessary for me to remove my clothing?
These are only a few of the questions I've received from clients before they try Reiki for the first time.
“No” is the answer to all three of those questions. Although every Reiki practitioner is different, you should expect to have an experience similar to this...
The Reiki Healer will welcome you and shake your hand warmly before introducing himself or herself. You'll feel more at ease thanks to the gentle, calming music playing in the background.
You'll take a few moments to tell me about yourself and what you want to achieve during the healing session. The doctor would then go through the specifics of what they want to do.
After that, you'll lie fully clothed on a therapy table with your arms and legs spread out straight. The majority of practitioners begin by having their client lie on their back and look up at the ceiling.
The Reiki session will begin once you are relaxed and comfortable. If you're at ease, you can close your eyes and fully immerse yourself in the moment.
The doctor will move around your body throughout the session, starting at your head and working down to your feet. They'll rest their hands on specific parts of the body for several minutes in each position so they can channel energy to you.
Their hands can hover just above your body in more sensitive areas, or if you have irritated skin, instead of actually making contact.
You will have a variety of experiences as they do the healing work...
  • Feelings of heat or cold
  • Body that itches or tingles
  • A whirlwind of feelings
  • Involuntary movement, or the feeling that the body is shifting when you are sitting still, is called involuntary movement.
  • Resurfacing memories
Since everybody is different, one or two of these things could happen to you, all of them could happen to you, or none of them could happen to you. These symptoms can not appear for a few days or weeks after the treatment. Reiki operates on a deeper level in the body which can take some time to manifest.
A full body treatment usually takes between 60 and 90 minutes to complete. The Reiki Healer will give you a glass of cold water at the end of the session to help you get back into your day.
A Reiki session usually proceeds in this manner. However, how can anyone placing their hands on your body make you feel better?

How Does Reiki Works?

Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese monk dealt with Universal Energy, the Life Force that flows through everything in our Universe and drives our bodies, much like many other monks before him.
He used it to cure, preserve, and learn about the natural world's mysteries.
Dr. Usui was unusual in that he wanted to share his healing skills with the rest of the world, so he invented Reiki, a simple system that everyone could use to heal.
Let's take a look at it in more detail. Reiki (pronounced “RAY-KEY” in the west) is a two-part Japanese word:
  • “Rei” is a Japanese word that means “universal, omniscient wisdom” or “spiritual consciousness.”
  • “Ki” is a Japanese word that means “life force,” “energy,” and “vigorousness.”
When you combine the two pieces, you get the universal lifeforce, also known as the omniscient wisdom of unlimited energy.
Energy is able to flow freely into your bloodstream when you are well. When energy becomes trapped and is unable to reach all parts of the body, illness, emotional pain, and spiritual distress can result.
Chakras are seven big energy gateways located in your body. These portals absorb energy from the Universe and channel it into your body. In a moment, we'll go through the Chakras in greater detail.
Reiki energy works because it is constructive energy with a higher frequency of vibration. When the strong energy gets near to your body, your body's energy begins to increase its vibrations to match the positive energy's higher frequency.
As a result, a Reiki healer can direct beneficial energies from the world to the person in need. As this positive energy is introduced into a person's energetic system, they will begin to recover.
But how do Reiki masters gain access to this potent energy?

Reiki Training Is Divided Into Three Levels

There are three distinct levels of Reiki practice. All practitioners, regardless of their degree, are capable of channeling healing energy into your body.
The levels are differentiated by the amount of experience and skills possessed by a Reiki practitioner, which allows them to heal in different ways and at different speeds.
You'll begin by learning self-healing techniques in level one, also known as the first degree. It's important to start practicing on yourself in order to build the knowledge and instincts needed to conduct a healing procedure on someone else.
After you've gained trust in your ability to heal yourself, you will learn how to heal others. There are 19 different hand positions to master, each of which affects a different body part.
As I previously said, this is sufficient preparation to cure yourself and others for the rest of your life. Those who are called to do so, however, can proceed to level two.
One of the most significant benefits of progressing to Level 2 is that the recovery time is reduced from 60-90 minutes to 15-30 minutes. You'll be able to reach more people if you can handle clients quicker.
As you learn the first three symbols, Cho Ku Rei, Sei-Heiki, and Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen, you'll improve your Reiki skills. These will help you boost your healing sessions and send healing energy through time and space. I'll get to those in a minute.
Those who want to learn more about Reiki will become Reiki Masters. The Master Symbol, Dai Ko Myo, is learned in the third stage of training and helps you to deepen your link to Reiki.
Only Reiki Masters, such as myself, are able to teach Reiki to others. You also learn how to do a Reiki Attunement as a Reiki Master so that you can now pass on the gift of Reiki to others.
Don't worry if you've never heard of an Attunement. We'll look at a quick method right now.

What Is A Reiki Attunement, And How Does It Work?

With just a little practice, anyone can perform simple Reiki healing…
However, in order to access more effective and advanced techniques, you must first raise your spiritual energy. This is known as an Attunement, and it occurs at each of Reiki's three stages. You can do this in a few different ways...
  • Self-Attunement from a Master
  • Direct Attunement from a Master
  • Distance Attunement from a Master
There's a common belief that "if you've been attuned, the power of Reiki will remain with you for the rest of your life."
This obviously isn't the case.
To keep a good link to Reiki, you'll need to re-attune yourself on a regular basis, regardless of the tool you use.
You wouldn't believe how many people have come to me and said their "link faded" despite their Master telling them they only needed to be Attuned once.
I recommend re-attuning to your highest level of Reiki every 6 to 12 months, but you'll know when it's time if you listen to your gut.
So, let's take a closer look at your three Attunement choices...
The first is a Master's direct Attunement. You'll have to go through an Attunement ceremony if you choose this form.
The Reiki Master travels around you as you sit in a chair, placing their hands in different positions and using the Reiki symbols to bind you to the universal force.
Although having a Master do all of the Attunement work for you is convenient, there are some drawbacks, such as having to find a Reiki Master in person, pay exorbitant fees, and then hope they did the Attunement correctly.
For most people, this is impractical, particularly since you'll need to repeat this process at least once or twice a year for it to be successful.
A Master's Distance Attunement is your second choice. This is similar to receiving a direct Attunement from a Master, except the Attunement energy is sent to you without you needing to be present.
This approach has the advantage of allowing you to contact a Reiki Master from anywhere in the world and have them give you an Attunement without having to travel. You'll also have access to a much larger pool of Masters because you won't be limited by geography.
This procedure, however, can be expensive, and you must ensure that the Master performs the Attunement correctly.
The third approach is to practice Self-Attunement. This choice appeals to me and my students because it allows you to maintain your own Reiki link without having to rely on someone else.
It's also less costly because you can re-attune yourself whenever you want without having to pay a Master.
Since the energy isn't filtered through a master, I find that self-attuned healers have a better bond with Reiki.

Your Chakras And Aura Are Part Of Your Energetic Body

Reiki works on your powerful body, which includes your aura and seven big chakras.
Your Aura is made up of all the energy that is linked to your physical body, including the energy that surrounds and beyond it. The health of your Chakras determines the health of your aura...
A Chakra is a rotating vortex that allows energy to enter and exit your body. The amount of energy available for your machine to use at any given time is regulated by these seven energy centers.
Each Chakra has its own color and is in charge of a different aspect of your life. Starting at the base of the spine and going to the top of the head, here are the seven Chakras…
  • Simple physical needs, relation to the earth, grounding, and will to live are all represented by the Root Chakra (red).
  • Sexual energy, passions, and imagination are all represented by the Sacral Chakra (orange).
  • The Solar Plexus Chakra (yellow) is responsible for rational thought, concentration, inspiration, and drive.
  • The Heart Chakra (green) represents abundance, kindness, and the ability to love others.
  • Communication, self-expression, and reality are all represented by the Throat Chakra (light blue).
  • Intuition, memory, and visualization are all aspects of the Third Eye Chakra (indigo).
  • Spiritual liberation, attachment to the highest self, and a sense of oneness with the world are all associated with the Crown Chakra (violet).
To allow energy into your system, all seven of your Chakras should be open and balanced.
Chakras are not working properly when a person is sick, whether physically, emotionally, or spiritually. A Reiki practitioner's job is to figure out the Chakras are out of balance and then channel Reiki's optimistic, caring energies to help rebalance them.
And the hands are the primary means by which Reiki Healers transmit energy to a client...

Hand Positions For Reiki

Traditional Reiki therapies include putting your hands on your own or your client's body. Advanced Reiki practitioners can send Reiki through time and space, but we'll get to that in a minute.
There's a reason why Reiki heals with the hands. Remember the Chakras we just discussed? There are seven main energy centers on your spine, but each of your hands also has a smaller Chakra.
The palm of your hand Chakras are powerful energy collectors that draw energy from the universe and deliver it to everything in need of healing.
When you gently position or hover your hands on your own or a client's body, you're connecting to Universal Lifeforce Energy, which helps the body's natural healing abilities to flourish.
Simply putting your hands on your body will help to relieve aches and pains, relax the mind during stressful times, and avoid illness and disease.
During your first degree training, you'll learn unique hand positions: one set is used for self-healing, while the other set is used for healing others.
The various hand positionstarget various parts of the body and provide relief from particular ailments. The second hand location, for example, entails putting both hands on top of the head to cover the crown Chakra.
The role not only relieves headaches and migraines, but it also helps with stomach issues and emotional issues.
Hand role seven, on the other hand, would be the most beneficial if you or your client were having immune system issues.
These hand positions can be used to not only address existing problems, but also to avoid them from occurring in the first place.
When you're new to Reiki, you'll learn and practice a set of hand positions, but as you advance, you'll be able to rely more on your instincts.

Paying Attention To Your Intuition

Reiki is a powerful healing technique that combines technical expertise, such as hand positions and symbols, with your inner wisdom.
You've known how to heal yourself since you were a kid. This skill was bestowed upon you at birth. Now all you have to do is figure out how to tap into the energy and experience and put it to use.
And you can do it by meditating. Meditation is a quiet time for introspection, listening to your body, and recognizing subtle sensations that can aid intuition growth.
Taking time to meditate is an energy-restoration technique that allows the body to heal and improve its energetic cycle. Reiki's calming energy will be able to move through you and through your clients more quickly and efficiently as your energy cycle improves.
Meditation is often needed for Reiki practice because it helps you block out the world's excess noise so that you can hear your inner voice and wisdom.
It's important to pay attention to this voice because it will serve as your guide when doing a Reiki treatment. The more you practice turning inward to listen, the greater your intuition will become.
And intuition is a critical component of your Reiki practice.
You'll go through the different steps you learned in your preparation when you conduct a therapy session, but there will be a stage when you'll need to listen to your instincts.
You'll be given instructions on how long to keep those positions in the Reiki Course, but everyone is different. It's up to you and your instincts to make the right decision for your client.
You'll learn how to sharpen your instincts as well as the fundamental guiding principles in my versatile, easy-to-follow program. To learn more, go to this page.
You must not only cultivate your instincts, but you must also be aware of your intentions.

Reiki Healing Intentions

What is the purpose of this energy? What is the healing session's purpose?
Reiki energy must be channeled with a specific goal in mind. It may be any of a number of items, like:
  • To be more in tune with your feelings, balance the Sacral Chakra.
  • To reduce anxiety, clear leftover energy from a childhood accident.
  • To help you heal from a heart attack, you should release an energetic barrier in your chest.
The flow of energy is guided to a specific location by intention. However, there is another element of purpose that you should be aware of: Your personal objectives.
Are you using Reiki for a person's greater good? Or are you attempting to produce results that would only favor yourself?
Reiki is a pure and healthy healing technique that can only be used for good.
You will lose your Reiki link and be unable to use it if your Reiki goal is not for the highest good.
Sending healing energy to your sister, who has asked you to assist her in recovering from pneumonia, is an example of a pure and caring use of Reiki.
Your Reiki goal is selfish if you tell her that you can only support her if she pays you a large amount of money to finance your new sports car.
It's important to note that Reiki is pure and should be handled as such, or the ability to channel healing energy can be lost.
You can direct the flow of energy by cultivating an intention. However, there are a few resources that can assist you.

The Reiki Symbols Are A Force To Be Reckoned With

Reiki should often be used on its own, as level one practitioners are taught. The symbols are merely a tool for directing healing energy and focusing your attention.
These icons are extremely precious and must be safeguarded. If they are Reiki level two or above, you can never let someone else see you drawing any of the symbols below as a healing professional.
Many Reiki Masters will not share this knowledge with you, but I believe that teaching you about Reiki would help it spread further across the world. So, here are the icons...
The Power Symbol is Cho Ku Rei. It's also known as the light switch because it turns on all of the other symbols and links you to second-degree Reiki energy.
The symbol for mental and emotional healing is Sei Heiki. It's a powerful tool for overcoming addictions, calming fears, mending strained relationships, and more.
Second-degree Reiki practitioners may use Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen to transmit healing energy to anybody, anywhere at any time. It allows for distance healing by transcending the limits of space and time.
The Reiki Master Symbol, Dai Ko Myo, is only to be used for those who have completed the third degree of training. It is the most important symbol which can be used to make significant life changes.
The standard variants of the four symbols have many variations and new interpretations. Dr. Usui, Reiki's creator, created the initial symbols, which are mentioned above.
It is entirely up to you whether or not to use the Reiki Symbols. In any case, you'll be engaging in one of the most unusual healing arts.
There are several aspects of Reiki that are special, and as a result, each person who receives this healing energy will have a unique experience. So the only way to really appreciate Reiki's strength is to try it for yourself.
