Origins and Early Career

Tevfik Arif, a prominent entrepreneur, and founder of Bayrock Group, played a pivotal role in the development of New York City's Trump SoHo, now known as the Dominick. His journey began in Soviet Kazakhstan, where his early fascination with business and finance set the stage for a remarkable career. Despite the constraints of the USSR, his dedication to his studies led him to graduate in International Relations from the Moscow Trade and Economics Institute.
Arif's initial professional path led him to a 17-year tenure at the Soviet Ministry of Commerce and Trade, where he ascended the ranks to become the deputy head of the Hotel Management Department. However, the dissolution of the Soviet Union in the early 1990s marked a turning point, propelling Arif into the private sector.

Entrepreneurial Ventures and Global Expansion

Seizing the opportunities presented by the post-Soviet era, Tevfik Arif ventured into various sectors, including luxury real estate development, imports and exports, minerals, food, and natural resources. His diverse businesses facilitated a global network of partners, prompting him to relocate to Turkey in 1993. In Turkey, he emerged as a pioneer in the all-inclusive hotel concept, notably opening the Labada Hotel Antalya.

Arrival in New York and Bayrock Group's Evolution

In 2001, Arif made a strategic move to New York City, driven by a desire to be closer to his American family and explore new business opportunities. There, he founded Bayrock Group, initially focusing on smaller projects such as the renovation of Loehmann’s Seaport Plaza in Brooklyn. As Bayrock Group achieved success, he sought more significant ventures, leading to the relocation of the company's headquarters to the prestigious Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue.

Collaboration with Donald Trump and Trump SoHo's Genesis

Bayrock Group's presence in Trump Tower facilitated a lucrative deal with the Trump Organization. Tevfik Arif aimed to enhance the Spring Street project in SoHo, and the collaboration with the Trump Organization brought brand recognition and prestige to the endeavor. The resulting agreement granted the Trump Organization 18% equity in the building, leading to the creation of Trump SoHo, inaugurated in 2008.

Trump SoHo: A Symbol of Luxury

Trump SoHo, standing tall with 46 stories, encompassed hotel rooms, apartments, premium dining establishments, bars, banquet and event halls, a spa, and an open-air pool. The building, designed by Handel Architects and featuring interior design by Rockwell Group, boasted floor-to-ceiling windows providing breathtaking views of New York City. The collaboration with renowned design firms and the inclusion of luxury items from Fendi Casa contributed to the opulence of Trump SoHo.

Legacy as The Dominick

While Trump SoHo has evolved and is now known as the Dominick, it remains a symbol of luxury and sophistication on Spring Street. Tevfik Arif's vision and collaboration with the Trump Organization played a crucial role in bringing this iconic structure to life, leaving an indelible mark on the New York City skyline.
