Voahangy Rasetarinera, the owner of The Giving Pies in San Jose, found herself in a precarious situation when Tesla, the electric car giant, placed a substantial order for pies only to cancel it at the last minute. The good thing is, Elon Musk came to the rescue after Tesla cancels $16k pie order.
New York Post reportsthat the order, amounting to $16,000, was initially for 4,000 pies and came through on Valentine’s Day, with a Tesla representative indicating it was for an event honoring Black History Month.

Tesla's Pie Order Sends Shockwaves Through California Bakery

According to Rasetarinera, the Tesla worker handling the order requested delivery for the following week. She promptly provided a quote, which was approved by the Tesla representative. However, the payment from Tesla's vendor did not materialize, prompting Rasetarinera to inquire about the delay.
"She said, 'Oh, I’m so sorry that vendor hadn’t paid you yet, I think they’re kind of new,'” Rasetarinera recalled. To her surprise, she was then asked if they could double the order. Despite the increased workload and the need to cancel other orders, Rasetarinera agreed.
However, the situation took an unexpected turn when she received a text message from the Tesla representative: “It unfortunately sounds like we will be changing plans and will not be needing this order. Thank you so much for your support I appreciate it.”
This sudden cancellation left The Giving Pies in a precarious position, with Rasetarinera estimating a loss exceeding $16,000.

Expressing her frustration, she wrote on Facebook, “This abrupt reversal left me reeling, realizing the extent of the impact on my small business. I had invested time, resources, and effort based on assurances from Tesla, only to be left high and dry.”
When Rasetarinera sought clarification from Tesla, she was informed that the decision came from upper management. She criticized Tesla's corporate culture, stating, “To me, it was clear that Tesla’s corporate culture prioritized convenience over accountability, disregarding the livelihoods of small business owners like myself.”

Elon Musk Pledges To "Make Things Good" After Tesla's Pie Fiasco

The incident gained further attention when Elon Musk, Tesla's billionaire CEO, responded on social media. "Just hearing about this. Will make things good with the bakery," Musk tweeted. This public acknowledgment by Musk raised hopes for a resolution for The Giving Pies.
Despite Musk's assurance, the fallout from the canceled order had a tangible impact on Rasetarinera's bakery. In an interview with KRON-TV, she revealed the challenges she faced in dealing with Tesla. “I’m a small business. I don’t have the luxury of infinite resources, so I really need to be paid so I can secure my staff,” she emphasized.
A representative from Tesla later reached out to Rasetarinera, indicating that the Tesla employee who approved the order was not authorized to approve payments. As of the latest update, Tesla had not made the payment for the pies but offered a tour of the factory.
Elon Musk's subsequent post on social media, in response to the widespread coverage of the incident, suggests a potential resolution. "People should always be able to count on Tesla trying its best," Musk stated.
This acknowledgment from Musk indicates a willingness to address the situation and may bring some relief to The Giving Pies, which now waits to see how Tesla will indeed "make things good" after the unexpected pie order debacle.
