The title of Miss Universe has been won by someone new! After a night of competition at the José Adolfo Pineda Arena in San Salvador, El Salvador, on Saturday, Miss Nicaragua was named Miss Universe 2023.
Just before the winner was revealed, Miss Nicaragua, Sheynnis Palacios, and Miss Thailand, Anntonia Porsild, stood on stage with their hands clasped together as the venue went dark, with only a spotlight shining on the two contestants.
It is the first time in history that a Nicaraguan woman has won Miss Universe. She had been Miss Nicaragua in the 2017 Teen Miss Universe pageant and placed in the top 10. She had also been Miss Nicaragua in the Miss World pageant in 2021.

At this year's Miss Universe, contestants from 84 different countries competed.
