Top 10 James McAvoy Movies

Split 2016

M. Night Shyamalan's 2016 psychological horror film Split stars James McAvoy, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Betty Buckley and was written, directed, and produced by him. The story revolves around a guy with 24 personalities who kidnaps and imprisons three adolescent girls in a remote subterranean facility. On November 11, 2015, principal photography commenced in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

On September 26, 2016, the film debuted at Fantastic Fest, and Universal Pictures distributed it in the United States on January 20, 2017. The film garnered mostly good reviews, with reviewers praising McAvoy's acting and applauding Shyamalan's directing.

Some mental health experts blasted the movie for allegedly stigmatizing mental illness. The split was a box office hit, collecting $278 million worldwide on a $9 million budget. Split is a standalone sequel to M. Night Shyamalan's 2000 film Unbreakable, but it is not advertised as such. Instead, the reveal is saved until a sequence in which Bruce Willis reprises his performance from Unbreakable in an uncredited appearance.

Split has been labeled the first "stealth sequel" and the first solo supervillain origin picture by critics. Shyamalan's Unbreakable trilogy came to a close with the 2019 picture Glass, which reunited the actors and characters from both prior films.

Glass 2019

M. Night Shyamalan wrote and directed the 2019 American superhero picture, Glass, which he also produced alongside Jason Blum, Marc Bienstock, and Ashwin Rajan. The film is a sequel to Shyamalan's earlier films Unbreakable (2000) and Split (2016), as well as the third and final episode of the Unbreakable trilogy.

Unbreakable stars Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson, Spencer Treat Clark, and Charlayne Woodard return, while Split stars James McAvoy and Anya Taylor-Joy return, with Sarah Paulson, Adam David Thompson, and Luke Kirby completing the group.

Despite popular demand for a sequel to Unbreakable, Touchstone Pictures declined to fund one. Shyamalan began writing Split using a character he had created for Unbreakable but had to remove from the screenplay owing to balance difficulties. He knew he had the chance to do a trilogy of films, and he used the finale of Split to place the picture inside the Unbreakable universe.

This entailed getting the rights to utilize both Willis' and Jackson's Unbreakable characters from Walt Disney Studios, with the promise of Disney being involved in the production and distribution of the third picture alongside Universal Pictures.

The split was a commercial and critical triumph, and Shyamalan revealed in April 2017 that he had begun production on Glass. On January 12, 2019, the film had its global debut at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, and Universal Pictures distributed it in the United States on January 18, 2019.

Critics gave Glass mixed reviews, calling it "disappointing" and "underwhelming" owing to the film's last act and narrative while praising the cast's performances. The picture was a commercial success, generating $247 million worldwide on a production budget of $20 million.

Atonement 2007

In 2007, Joe Wright directed Atonement, a romantic war drama film starring James McAvoy, Keira Knightley, Saoirse Ronan, Romola Garai, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Vanessa Redgrave, and featuring James McAvoy, Keira Knightley, Saoirse Ronan, Romola Garai, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Vanessa Redgrave.

The film is based on Ian McEwan's 2001 novel of the same name. The film begins in the 1930s and chronicles a crime and its consequences over the next six decades. It was filmed in the United Kingdom for StudioCanal.

On September 7, 2007, it was released theatrically in the United Kingdom, and on December 7, 2007, it was released theatrically in North America. In many parts of the world, Universal Studios released it.

At the age of 35, Wright became the youngest director to ever open the Venice International Film Festival when Atonement opened at the 2007 Vancouver International Film Festival and the 64th Venice International Film Festival.

On a $30 million budget, the film was a commercial success, generating roughly $129 million worldwide. Reviewers commended the film for its performances, emotional depth, direction by Wright, Dario Marianelli's score, photography, and visuals.

Atonement won Best Original Score and was nominated for six additional Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actress for Ronan, at the 80th Academy Awards. At the 61st British Academy Film Categories, it was nominated for fourteen awards, winning Best Film and Production Design, as well as the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture.

Wanted 2008

Wanted is a 2008 action thriller film directed by Timur Bekmambetov and written by Michael Brandt, Derek Haas, and Chris Morgan. It is largely inspired by the Mark Millar and J. G. Jones comic book series.

Angelina Jolie, James McAvoy, Morgan Freeman, Terence Stamp, Thomas Kretschmann, Common, and James McAvoy feature in the film. Wesley Gibson (McAvoy) is a disgruntled account manager who realizes he is the son of a professional assassin and intends to join the Fraternity, a secret organization where his father operated.

Millar sold the adaptation rights to Universal Pictures in 2004, and although the final screenplay strayed from the comic book supervillain mythology of the original miniseries, he was happy to see the majority of the comic's darker material kept. Filming started in April 2007 in the Czech Republic, Budapest, and Chicago, the story's principal location.

The bulk of the visual effects were created by Bekmambetov's production business, Bazelevs Production. Danny Elfman composed the film's soundtrack, which is based on guitar. Wanted was released to largely positive reviews on June 27, 2008, with acclaim for its rapid tempo and stylized action sequences, and earned $342 million worldwide. A sequel was announced soon after the film's debut, but it never got off the ground.

A young man, Wesley, learns that his long lost father is an assassin. When his father is murdered, the son is recruited into his father's secret organisation and trained by a man named Sloan.
