A derogatory, anti-gay comment posted this week on a blog in the run-up to a vote on repealing “don’t ask don’t tell” appears to have originated in Sen. Saxby Chambliss’s (R-Ga.) office, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported today.
“The (Sergeant at Arms) has worked side by side with our personnel to determine whether the comment in question emanated from our office. That appears to be the case,” Chambliss’s office said in a statement to the Journal-Constitution, adding that staffers have not yet determined who posted the comment.
The backstory: On Tuesday, as the Senate failed to passa defense authorization bill that included a provision that would have repealed the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy, a commenter named “Jimmy” wrote, “All faggots must die,” on Joe.My.God, a gay culture blog. The author of the blog, Joseph Jervis, tracked the IP address of the comment and found that it originated near Chambliss’s office.
