Lautenberg: Offshore Drilling Is an ‘Inherently Dangerous Practice’
Anti-drilling Democrats are already pouncing on today’s Gulf oil rig explosion to counter claims by the oil industry and some Republicans that the offshore drilling is safe.
In a statement, Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.), who has been one of the leading voices in the Senate against drilling, said offshore drilling is “an inherently dangerous practice.”
The full statement:
This explosion is further proof that offshore drilling is an inherently dangerous practice. It’s time for the United States to adopt a comprehensive energy strategy that moves us away from dirty fuels and towards clean energy sources. As the U.S. Coast Guard responds to this latest incident, we must redouble our efforts to accelerate the push for clean, renewable energy and end our nation’s dependence on oil.
