Florida Goes Topsy-Turvy in New Poll
The hype around the Florida Senate race was focused on Charlie Crist and Marco Rubio, who sparred for the GOP nomination before the former was forced to go independent. But now there’s a new twist: Presumptive Democratic candidate Rep. Kendrick Meek is now in a dead heat with billionaire and political newcomer Jeff Greene. In the latest Quinnipiac poll, Meek has 29 percent to Greene’s 27 — with 37 percent undecided.
What’s more, Quinnipiac also shows a major turnaround in the state’s gubernatorial race. Michael E. Arth’s quixotic campaign aside, this was supposed to be a contest between Attorney General Bill McCollum (R) and Florida Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink (D). But now, McCollum has fallen 13 points behind health care industry executive Rick Scott, whose multi-million-dollar ad buy seems to have worked.
Coupled with the bizarre upset in South Carolina on Tuesday, this is shaping up to be one strange election season.
