Carroll Campbell III, son of the former governor, was already in the race, as was Katherine Jenerette, a GOP activist who challenged Brown in 2008. With the news of Brown’s retirement, Paul Thurmond, son of former Sen. Strom Thurmond, is making noise about getting in.
While businesswoman Linda Ketner came close to beating Brown in 2008, aided by African-American turnout that let the Obama-Biden ticket outperform the Kerry-Edwards ticket, no serious Democrat has stepped up for 2010.
