In response to today’s announcement that arrival of the Senate’s climate change bill will be delayedat least a few weeks, the office of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) just shot out a statement indicating that the setback hasn’t hindered his plans to pass a bill this year.
They [the sponsors] are working diligently to craft a well-balanced bill and Senator Reid fully expects the Senate to have ample time to consider this comprehensive clean energy and climate legislation before the end of the year.
Earlier, Sens. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) and John Kerry (D-Mass.) had issued a statement of their own indicatingthat the climate bill — previously scheduled for release next week — would be postponed, largely due to the chamber’s focus on health care legislation.
It’s a testimony to Congress’ partisan gridlock that, with four months remaining in 2009, Democrats will be fortunate to pass just one of their sweeping proposals.
