Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton said in a national television appearance Wednesday night that he has yet to make a final determination on whether or not he will enter the 2012 GOP field, but that he will try to make his decision by Labor Day.
When asked by Fox News host Greta VanSustren if he was going to run for President, Bolton said he “is still thinking about it.”
“I watched what happened to our defense budget in the negotiations over the debt ceiling legislation. I’m very concerned about hollowing out of the American military capability in a dangerous world, that we’re just not doing what we need to do to protect ourselves.”
Bolton added that he believes there is “enormous vulnerability” for President Obama and that “he deserves to be beaten” and “isn’t competent to be President.”
Although he has long been considered a potential 2012 Republican candidate, Bolton has yet to make any serious moves toward such a goal. As such, it remains unlikely that he is actively preparing for entry into an already large field.
The exchange concerning 2012 happens at the very end of the clip embedded below, at roughly the 4:55 mark.
