The series has been in the works at Paramount Pictures since 2004, at which time a film version of Twilight was developed that varied substantially from the book.
Summit Entertainment bought the film's rights three years later. Summit Entertainment stated that they would begin production on New Moon after Twilight earned $35.7 million on its opening day; they had purchased the rights to the other books earlier that month. Breaking Dawn: Part 2 started filming in November 2010 and will be released on November 18, 2011 and November 16, 2012, respectively.

Twilight (2008)

Twilight is the title of the first film. It tells the story of Bella (Stewart), a seventeen-year-old girl who comes to Forks, Washington, to live with her father and the police chief, Charlie (Billy Burke). When she begins at her new school, she is instantly attracted to Edward (Pattinson).
As she attempts to figure out what he thinks of her, his hot and cold demeanor fascinates and irritates her. He eventually exposes himself to be a vampire, not a youngster like her, but a vampire with a lifespan of over 100 years. This causes obvious problems, not least because Edward and his fellow vampires find Bella's blood enticing.
Despite their problems, Bella and Edward fall in love, thrusting her into a perilous magical realm and exposing her to the Cullen family. This comprises adopted vampire siblings Alice (Ashley Greene), Jasper (Jackson Rathbone), Rosalie (Nikki Reed), and Emmet (Petter Facinelli), as well as "parental figures" Esme (Elizabeth Reaser) and Carlise (Petter Facinelli) (Kellan Lutz).
It also introduces her to a more dangerous vampire family who has set their sights on Bella, and when the Cullens band together to protect her at the cost of another vampire's life (James, played by Cam Gigandet), it sets off a chain reaction of vengeance and vampire politics that continues throughout the rest of the films.

The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009)

In New Moon, the story continues. While Twilight ended on a happy note, we return to the narrative shortly after the first film's ending, and things swiftly become heartbreaking. When Bella suffers a papercut during the Cullens' birthday celebration, Jasper loses control and attempts to suck her blood.
Despite the Cullens' efforts to dissuade Jasper from hurting Bella, Edward breaks things off and leaves town, separating himself and his whole family from Bella for her protection. She is devastated and is having a hard time coping with the loss, turning to risky, thrill-seeking behavior to fill the gap.
She meets Jacob Black (Lautner) at this point in the narrative, who joins her in her newly daredevil activities and helps her get out of her melancholy. She misses Edward, but as her relationship with Jacob grows, she begins to love her life again.
When Jacob gets sick one day and returns to find a changed version of himself, things become difficult. Bella discovers his secret soon after: he's a werewolf, as are other members of his Quileute tribe. Furthermore, they are natural vampire adversaries, despite the tribe's long-standing peace treaty with the Cullens.
When the Volturi are presented at the conclusion of the book and film, Edward and Bella are reunited. The royal family of vampires are aristocratic, high-ranking, and powerful ancient beings who establish the rules of vampire society. Edward misunderstands Alice's vision of Bella falling over a cliff and believes she killed herself.
He chooses to put an end to his life by exposing his vampire status in a busy Italian piazza in front of the Volturi, who would instantly kill him for revealing their secret to humanity. Bella and Alice arrive just in time to rescue him, but it is revealed that Bella is familiar with vampires, and the pair is given an ultimatum: either murder Bella or convert her into a vampire.

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (2010)

We finally get to see a narrative element that was set up at the conclusion of the first film in the third installment. The Cullens must cope with Victoria and her intention to murder Bella throughout the events of this film.
The film begins with Victoria transforming a young student called Riley Biers into a vampire to aid her in carrying out her plot against the Cullens.
Victoria's intentions are revealed to the Cullens via Alice's visions, and they begin to prepare for her arrival. The gang soon realizes she's putting together an army of newborn vampires.
Following this vision, Edward takes Bella to Jacksonville to see her mother, while the rest of the gang goes to Forks to take down Victoria. She manages to flee, but not before intruding into werewolf territory, implying that they would now join the battle. To counter this, Jasper, who is acquainted with newborns and how they may be used in battles, prepares the family for the assault by training them.
Victoria's army becomes large enough to draw the Volturi's attention; nevertheless, the Volturi opt to let matters between Victoria and the Cullens play out since they are out of favor after the incident with Bella.
During their graduation celebration party, Alice has another vision of the army, and although Jacob is there, he agrees that the werewolves would assist them fight, to to Bella's chagrin.
Between the preparation and the actual battle, we continue to examine the topics introduced in the second film. Rosalie's background and how she became a vampire are briefly revealed.
She confesses that she voted against Bella's transformation because she would have preferred someone to vote in her favor. The two form an immediate connection. The love triangle between the three is eventually resolved when Jacob kisses Bella, and she understands that although she loves Jacob, her emotions for him are nothing compared to her feelings for Edward.
The battle begins, and the Cullens destroy the army without losing a single member of their own group, with the exception of Jacob, who is wounded while defending Leah.
Victoria and Riely track down Bella and Edward, but beat them and rejoin the rest of the gang. When the Volturi delegation arrives, Jane points out that Bella is still human, but the Cullens react by claiming that the date has already been arranged. She confesses that she doesn't really hate Bella, but rather admires her for her longevity.

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 (2011)

It's the day of Bella Swan and Edward Cullen's wedding, a few months after the events of the last film, and Bella is preparing with the assistance of Edward's sisters Alice and Rosalie, as well as her mother Renee.
Bella is overjoyed to see Jacob again, and the two dance in the woods together. Bella confesses that she and Edward want to marry while she is still human during their honeymoon. Knowing that such an act might kill her, Jacob gets enraged.
Bella begins to suspect she is pregnant two weeks after the wedding. Edward feels distressed because he understands how improbable it is for a human to survive giving birth to a vampire's child. When Jacob sees Bella upon her return to Forks, he is enraged and shares Edward's worries. Bella refuses to abort the pregnancy, despite Carlisle's urging.
Jacob tells Sam about Bella's illness in a rage, and he is determined to save her. Jacob fights with Sam because he doesn't want to harm Bella, and the pack splits into two, one headed by Sam and the other by Jacob.
Bella's health rapidly deteriorates as the pregnancy continues, and since the baby is developing at a fast pace, it becomes clear that Bella will not be able to bring the pregnancy to term.
Drinking human blood to feed the baby is the only thing that seems to improve her condition. When Bella falls during a discussion with Edward, everyone's greatest fears are realized, and they soon realize that neither Bella nor the baby will live unless something is done.
The two begin conducting a cesarean surgery, and it seems that the operation has helped, but Bella's heart stops beating as she and Edward are enjoying a moment with their newborn kid.
Nothing appears to help Jacob and Edward bring Bella back to life. In desperation, Edward tries to change Bella, but his attempts are futile. The news that Bella has died makes both men upset, and Jacob attempts to murder Edward before fleeing, claiming that the greatest punishment Edward could face would be living with the knowledge that he killed Bella.
He intends to murder their newborn daughter Renesmee in his rage, but he imprints on her instead. The werewolves who had arrived to murder Renesmee are forced to flee since their rules plainly indicate that they are not permitted to hurt anybody who has been imprinted on.
The film's conclusion shows that Bella did live, but the venom was unable to function normally owing to the painkiller she had taken before the cesarean section. Her metamorphosis took longer than normal as a result of this.
This moment is a lovely ending, but a mid-credit sequence shows that the Volturi are hell-bent on obtaining the new Cullen coven member no matter what it takes.
He intends to murder Bella because he thinks the kid will be unable to control their bloodlust after birth.

THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN Part 1 - Trailer

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 (2012)

The aforementioned mid-credit sequence establishes the primary conflict of the series' final installment. Bella, who has just given birth, wakes from her human-to-vampire change for the first time and sees her daughter Renesmee. When she finds out Jacob has imprinted on Renesmee before Jacob explains what imprinting is, she is angry.
Carlisle decides that they must leave Forks, Washington in order to safeguard their identities, particularly in light of Charlie. Jacob pays a visit to Charlie, concerned about losing Renesmee, and tells him that Bella is OK, but that she had to adjust in order to develop. Jacob also shows Charlie his wolf form, informing him that he doesn't exist in the world he believes he does.
After thereafter, Charlie pays a visit to the Cullens' house, where he meets Renesmee. The Cullens are allowed to remain in Forks and keep an eye on Renesmee's fast development. Another vampire, Irina, sees Renesmee and chooses to tell the Volturi since she believes the kid is eternal. The Volturi view this as a chance to acquire what they want and go to Forks, while Alice sees this in a vision and sets out on a quest with Jasper to gather further proof that Renesmee is not an eternal kid.
She tells Carlisle to collect as many witnesses as possible to testify to Renesmee's real nature before she leaves. Despite the fact that they have gathered a sizable number of supporters, Edward and Carlisle come to the conclusion that a battle is virtually unavoidable at this point.
The Volturi, headed by Aro, come ready for battle, hoping to enlist the Cullens. Irina is called forward and takes full responsibility for her mistake, which leads to her death.
Aro is certain that Renesmee will represent a danger in the future, demonstrating the need of battle. Before any violence begins, Alice and Jasper return, and Alice shares her vision of the impending battle with Aro, who welcomes it, enabling Alice and Jasper to unveil Nahuel, their eyewitness who, like Renesmee, is a half-human half-vampire.
Renesmee's position as a non-threat is confirmed when the witness proves that he is not a danger. The Volturi reluctantly left, saying that no battle would be held today.
The final film concludes with a heartbreaking moment in which Alice sees a happy Bella and Edward gazing over a fully grown Renesmee and Jacob who are happily together in a vision. After everything is said and done, Bella and Edward return to their meadow, where Bella lowers her mental barrier, enabling Edward to read her thoughts and relive all of their fondest memories. Both sides will suffer significant casualties, including Aro's death.
The coven's given members to his guard, Aro is given permission to contact Renesmee and discovers that she is not an eternal girl. The creation of eternal infants was forbidden because their uncontrolled nature posed a significant risk to their species.
