Many theories have been chucked around about SAD and Depression most of which only serve to confuse those who do not have a psychology degree, which in all fairness is most of us. This has in some ways held back the public opinion of SAD in the past but now it seems the marketplace is filling to the brim with depression lamps to aid you in undergoing therapy at home. While research has shown some good results with light therapy for depression it would normally be used to treat SAD more effectively.

Diagnosed Of SAD

Diagnosis of SAD is no easy task as the factors involved in causing you to be depressed could be extremely varied depending on who you are, what your lifestyle is like, where you live, and even what you ate yesterday. Even with all the research that has gone into SAD, many doctors will still avoid reaching that prognosis as many underlying depression disorders could possibly show themselves as SAD. There is a way around this though, by simply trying Light therapy you could avoid the whole ordeal of having to take pharmaceutical drugs if symptoms are relieved.
The idea behind Depression Lamps is quite a simple one. The effect these lamps have is to simulate our exposure to daylight to be as normal as possible through the darker winter months. This in turn will set your circadian rhythm back to normal and before long you will find that your sleeping patterns and moods become more regular. It is as simple as sitting a few feet from a specially designed lamp for a short while each day and the chemical production in your brain should soon return to normal.
The main factors you should be aware of that point to a case of SAD are that, assuming there are no other reasons for your depression, that you should have felt a bout of depression for at least two consecutive years at the exact same time of year and that the depressive bouts are always followed by times when your depression seems to go into recession and no symptoms are evident. This would normally point to a clear curt case of SAD and can be treated fairly easily.
Light therapy for depression is by no means a new idea and much research have been performed in the area to allow doctors to better understand the effects it can have on a person’s day-to-day life. In some cases of underlying depression, light therapy with Depression lamps has been seen to help alleviate the symptoms to some degree. Even if this means you would have to take less medication you will be grateful for the reduced side effects that often accompany depression-related drugs.
So do a little research and spend some time talking to your doctor to see if you could stand to benefit from light therapy treatments. You could improve your life dramatically by doing something so simple it would really be a shame not to try it out just once.
