Selene, an elite vampire-warrior who rejects her orders, and Michael Corvin (Scott Speedman), a human caught up in the battle, are introduced in the first film, Underworld, which was released in 2003. Selene and Michael are pursued by their adversaries in the second film, Underworld: Evolution (released in 2006). The precursor to the series, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (2009), chronicles the beginnings of the vampire-lycan conflict. The sequel to Underworld: Evolution, Underworld: Awakening (2012), is the fourth film.
Humans have learned the existence of vampires and lycans in this film, and they are attempting to exterminate both species. Underworld: Blood Wars, the last film, was released worldwide on November 24, 2016, and in the United States on January 6, 2017. The series got mostly poor reviews from critics, yet it developed a sizable fan base and earned $539 million against a combined budget of $207 million.

Underworld (2003)

Underworld is a 2003 action horror film directed by Len Wiseman and written by Danny McBride, based on a Kevin Grevioux, Wiseman, and McBride scenario. The original script was written by Kevin Grevioux. The plot revolves around the dark past of vampires and lycans (an abbreviated form of lycanthrope, which means werewolf). It's the first (and chronologically second) chapter in the Underworld series.
Selene (Kate Beckinsale), a vampire Death Dealer on the hunt for Lycans, is at the center of the story. She develops feelings for a human named Michael Corvin (Scott Speedman), who is being hunted by the Lycans. Selene must choose between doing her job and killing Michael or going against her tribe and saving him when he is bitten by a Lycan. Michael Sheen, Shane Brolly, and Bill Nighy co-star with Beckinsale and Speedman in the film.
The film was released on September 19, 2003, as an international co-production involving firms from the United Kingdom, Germany, Hungary, and the United States. The film got mostly poor reviews upon its first release, although a small number of critics appreciated aspects such as the film's stunning Gothic aesthetics, Kate Beckinsale's "icy English poise," and the thoroughly worked-out vampire-werewolf mythos that serves as the film's background. The picture was an unexpected success, grossing $95 million against a $22 million production budget. The film was followed by three additional films, including Underworld: Evolution, which was released three years later.

Underworld: Evolution (2006)

Len Wiseman directed Underworld: Evolution, a 2006 American action horror thriller. The film is a sequel to the Underworld film from 2003 and the second entry in the Underworld series. Selene and Michael struggle to safeguard the Corvinus bloodline's future from its secret history in the film. Selene and Michael are played by Kate Beckinsale and Scott Speedman, respectively.
In 1202, a werewolf community is attacked by an army commanded by the three vampire elders (Markus, Viktor, and Amelia). Markus' twin brother, William Corvinus, the first and most powerful werewolf, is captured by Viktor and Amelia. Despite Markus's protests, Viktor orders William to be imprisoned in a secret place for the rest of his life.
Selene, a vampiress, brings Michael to a safe place in the present day so that she may face the vampire regent Kraven; she knows Kraven is about to murder Markus and wants to stop him. Markus, on the other hand, wakes up before Kraven comes and murders him and his soldiers. Alexander Corvinus, a.k.a. Lorenz Macaro, an old man who is an immortal and the forefather of both the vampire and Lycan species, sends a team of "cleaners" to examine the aftermath of the fight in the Lycans' lair. When Macaro examines Viktor's body, he discovers a metal disc that matches a necklace Sonja wore before. Following Lucian's death, Michael now has the other half of the necklace.
Markus hunts down Selene and Michael and assaults them using the computer expertise gained from Kraven's blood, but they escape him and hide in a warehouse. Selene and Michael express their emotions and enjoy passionate sex there. Michael and Selene set out to find out why Markus wants the necklace now that they know it's significant to him. Selene remembers seeing it as a kid but has no idea what it means. They go to the banished vampire historian Andreas Tanis' hideaway.
Tanis explains that Markus was the first vampire, one of Alexander Corvinus' three sons, and the first immortal. Markus became a vampire after being bitten by a bat, whereas William became a werewolf after being bitten by a wolf. The third son stayed human, leaving a line of mortal offspring, including Michael, the first Lycan-Vampire hybrid. William's first werewolves were completely animal-like and unable to revert to human form.
Markus contacted Viktor, then a dying mortal warlord, and promised to turn him and his army into vampires in return for hunting down and stopping William, as well as killing those he had infected. Viktor did not murder the brothers because Markus convinced him that doing so would result in the extinction of all vampires, including his Lycan slaves. Tanis also explains that William's jail was designed by Selene's father and that the necklace is the key.
Viktor murdered Selene's family because they knew where the prison was but transformed her into a vampiress with the jail's location inscribed in her blood. Tanis then suggests that Selene and Michael seek assistance from Macaro. Markus comes after Selene and Michael have left and swallows Tanis' blood to discover Selene and Michael's whereabouts, murdering Tanis in the process.
When Selene and Michael pay a visit to Macaro, they learn that he is Alexander Corvinus. Alexander explains that he has spent his whole eternal existence trying to keep the Vampire-Lycan conflict hidden from the world, and he refuses to let Selene murder his sons.
Markus appears, engages in a battle with Michael, and impales him. By swallowing Selene's blood, he discovers the location of William's captivity, before fatally killing his father and getting the second half of the necklace. He mocks his father's reluctance to assist William, revealing that he wants to dominate the world with William as the god-like ruler of a vampire-Lycan hybrid species. Selene consumes Alexander's blood at his command, boosting her physical strength and healing powers to the level of a hybrid. Alexander then blows up his spacecraft and kills himself.
Alexander's cleaners follow Selene to the jail to confront and kill Markus, but he has already released William. William bites the cleaners, who transform into werewolves as a result of the fight. Michael, who had been believed dead and was being taken on board the helicopter, reawakens and enters the battle in his hybrid form, tearing William's head off. Markus is killed by Selene, who confronts him in hand-to-hand fighting and pushes him into the rotor blades of the cleaners' wrecked helicopter.
Selene discovers after the fight that Alexander's blood has given her hybrid powers, such as immunity to the effects of sunlight, which is fatal to vampires.

Underworld: Awakening (2012)

Mr. Mrlind and Björn Stein directed Underworld: Awakening, a 2012 American action horror thriller. Kate Beckinsale reprises her role as Selene, while Theo James, Michael Ealy, and India Eisley join her in the fourth chapter of the Underworld series. Filming started in March 2011 in Vancouver, British Columbia, and the picture was released on January 20, 2012, in Digital 3D, IMAX 3D, and 2D cinemas worldwide, grossing $160 million. In 2016, it was followed by Underworld: Blood Wars.
The government and the general public are both aware of the existence of vampires and lycans a few years after the events of the second film. Selene and Michael are kidnapped by humans shortly after the Purge starts, as part of a mission to research and possibly exploit their abilities turns into a full-fledged massacre. Selene is imprisoned in cryogenic suspension due to her increased vampiric characteristics.
Selene manages to get free after being frozen for twelve years, during which both species had been hunted to extinction. She discovers that another subject has fled, whom she first mistook for Michael. Selene sees visions from the perspective of someone else as she moves around the high-tech institution. She follows the images, which lead her down a trash chute into a labyrinthine network of subterranean tunnels, believing Michael is mentally directing her. She runs across David, a teenage vampire who has been following her. They soon discover that the tunnels are filled with sick and feeble Lycans who are on the search for the subject with whom Selene is associated. Selene battles her way through the Lycan pack, determined to find Michael until she comes upon the second escapee: a terrified and perplexed little girl.
Selene, David, and the girl escape the facility using David's vehicle, only to be assaulted by a trio of Lycans once again. Selene shoots one Lycan as David stabs another; the third slams into the back of the car and bites the girl's shoulder. As she viciously tears the creature's skull in two, she undergoes a partial metamorphosis, displaying her hybrid characteristics. This is Selene's and Michael's daughter, she realizes. The girl explains that she discovered Selene's cryogenic tank during her escape from the institution and disabled it, allowing Selene to go. Despite her hybrid nature, it becomes clear that her bite wound is not healing and she is quickly weakening, prompting David to agree to take the two to his coven.
Her wound heals after she unwillingly swallows some blood. Selene prepares to leave the coven since they do not feel welcome because the girl is different from vampires, lycans, and even hybrids. David attempts to persuade her to remain and help them launch an assault against the humans by training some Death Dealers, but the coven is attacked by Lycans before she can make up her mind. Selene enters the battle and kills a slew of Lycans before being knocked out by a massive "Super-Lycan" who heals quickly and is immune to silver.
When she wakes up later, she discovers that David's father, Thomas, has given her daughter to the Lycans in exchange for their departure. In the fight, David is fatally wounded, but Selene revives him with her blood. Selene meets a human detective called Sebastian after she leaves, who is sympathetic to vampires since his now-deceased wife was a vampire. Sebastian reveals that the Lycans are linked to Antigen, a company committed to eradicating immortal species that also operates the facility where Selene has fled.
Selene learns that Antigen is controlled by Lycans who have been impersonating humans to deceive the world's governments into thinking the Lycans are extinct. Dr. Jacob Lane, the director of Antigen, is attempting to perfect the Lycan race and needs Selene's daughter's DNA to accomplish it. Selene encounters Quint again, Lane's son, and the prototype for Lycan alterations.
He is recognized as the "Super-Lycan" Selene encountered before. Selene and Sebastian attack Antigen to thwart Lane's plot and rescue Selene's daughter, whom they dub "Eve." Selene stumbles upon Subject 0, whom she recognizes as Michael, and shoots his cryogenic tank to rescue him. She is forced to abandon Michael, who is thawing, to prevent the Lycans from fleeing with Eve. David comes and assists Sebastian in killing numerous Lycan henchmen after being cured by her blood and inheriting Selene's immunity to sunlight. Selene attacks Quint after confronting Lane and Quint.
Selene kills him by implanting a silver grenade in his stomach, while Eve kills Lane by tearing out his neck when she fools him into reverting to his more vulnerable human form by hiding in a small tunnel. Sebastian commands the vampires to escape and distracts the policemen as the cops’ approach. When Selene, Eve, and David return to Michael's tank, the ice has broken and the tank is empty. Selene says that Michael will be hunted by the whole world, according to Selene, and the trio vows to locate him first.
