Kurt Vogel Russell is an American actor who was born on March 17, 1951. At the age of 12, he made his television debut in the western series The Travels of Jaimie McPheeters (1963–1964). He signed a 10-year deal with The Walt Disney Company in the late 1960s, and according to Robert Osborne, he was the studio's top star of the 1970s.
Russell's work in Silkwood earned him a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture (1983). He played anti-hero roles in several John Carpenter films in the 1980s, including army hero-turned-robber Snake Plissken in the futuristic action film Escape from New York (1981) and its sequel Escape from L.A. (1996), helicopter pilot R.J. MacReady in the horror film The Thing (1982), and truck driver Jack Burton in the kung-fu comedy action film Big Trouble in Little China (1986).
Russell also appeared in films such as The Best of Times (1986), Overboard (1987), Tango & Cash (1989), Backdraft (1991), Tombstone (1993), Stargate (1994), Executive Decision (1996), Vanilla Sky (2001), Miracle (2004), Sky High (2005), Death Proof (2007), The Hateful Eight (2015), Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017), and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2017).
He also appeared in three Fast and Furious films: Furious 7 (2015), The Fate of the Furious (2017), and F9 (2018). The year is 2021. Russell went on to play Santa Claus in the films The Christmas Chronicles (2018) and The Christmas Chronicles 2 (2018). According to The Guardian, he is one of the greatest performers who has never been nominated for an Academy Award.
Russell is the son of actor Bing Russell (1926–2003) and dancer Louise Julia (née Crone) Russell and was born in Springfield, Massachusetts. Jill, Jamie, and Jody are his three sisters. Russell was a member of his high school baseball teams as well as minor league baseball during his elementary school years. In 1969, he received his high school diploma from Thousand Oaks High School in California.
Bing, his father, was a professional baseball player. Jill, his sister, is the mother of Matt Franco, a baseball player. Russell was a member of the California Air National Guard's 146th Tactical Airlift Wing, stationed in Van Nuys, from 1969 until 1975. Russell made his film debut in the uncredited role of a kid who kicked a pilot (Elvis Presley) in the leg in It Happened at the World's Fair. Russell had a cameo appearance in the ABC sitcom Our Man Higgins, starring Stanley Holloway as an English butler in an American household, on April 24, 1963.
Later, in the ABC western series The Travels of Jaimie McPheeters (1963–64), he portrayed the titular character. The program was based on Robert Lewis Taylor's 1959 Pulitzer Prize-winning book of the same name.
Russell appeared as the son of police Lt. Phillip Gerard in "Nemesis," an episode of the ABC series The Fugitive in which he is accidentally abducted by his father's target, Doctor Richard Kimble. He portrayed a mistaken orphan in NBC's The Virginian, whose father was an outlaw played by Rory Calhoun, who was still alive and searching for his son after being released from jail.
Russell had a similar role as a little boy called Packy Kerlin in the Gunsmoke episode "Blue Heaven" from 1964. In the plot, he joins up with a wanted guy, played by Tim O'Connor, who assists Packy in reuniting with his mother while evading Texas bounty hunters. He works for an outlaw group in another tale, but the Rangers take him under their wing and the kid becomes useful when gunslingers attempt to seize Laredo, Texas. Russell portrayed Jungle Boy in an episode of CBS's Gilligan's Island, which aired on February 6, 1965, when he was 13 years old.

The Rosie the Riveter movement during WWII, when women took up industrial tasks usually held by males, inspired "Swing Shift." The end product is entertaining, and Christine Lahti was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, but the production was turbulent, with producer Goldie Hawn and director Jonathan Demme feuding over the final edit.
According to reports, Hawn was concerned about how her fans would respond to the darker figure she portrayed in Demme's version, so she recut the movie to make her character more sympathetic. Because he was rejected for military duty owing to a poor heart, Russell portrays one of the few draft-age males still working at the plant.
