On Grey’s Anatomy Season 19 Episode 1, “Everything Has Changed,” a new group of interns arrives at Grey Sloan Memorial as the residency program gets a new start with Meredith Grey as Interim Chief.
The teaching program was terminated when the show ended. During a blood shortage, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) chose to perform a risky surgery while the hospital's training standards were being evaluated by a visiting doctor.
Add to that the fact that Ellen Pompeo will have a limited role this season, and it appears that things are only going to get worse.
But, if the first episode of the season is any indication, that is not the case. Meredith Grey's new spark, combined with the new interns, breathes new life into the hospital.

Grey's Anatomy season 19 premieres in the United States on Thursday, October 6, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ABC, following the season premiere of Station 19. The episode will be available to watch on Hulu the following day.
Here is the synopsis for the season premiere episode titled "Everything Has Changed":
"Grey Sloan Memorial has resumed its program after a six-month hiatus. As the attending surgeons work to restore the program to its former glory, a group of talented young interns has been recruited. Meredith, who is still acting as interim chief, sees Nick for the first time since she turned down his offer to relocate to Minnesota ".
"Meanwhile, Bailey informs Richard that she is not ready to return to work; Levi musters the courage to break the bad news to Jo, and things become awkward when Link realizes he has already met one of the interns.
The new doctors are thrown into their first day on the job dealing with injuries from a recent tornado with the help of Amelia and Maggie."
However, many familiar faces will not be present for the rebirth of the teaching program. Interns and residents, such as Taryn Helm and Levi Schmitt, are obviously being transferred to other hospitals to complete their training.
Meanwhile, Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) and Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) are on the run after Owen was accused of illegally assisting veterans in suicide.
Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) resigned from her position as chief of surgery after giving Owen and Teddy enough time to flee. Finally, Richard Webber took a sabbatical to mourn the program's demise, and he helped shape it.
