The Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation said Thursday that independent contractors will be allowed to file for unemployment benefits beginning Saturday. Nevada residents who qualify for the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) program may begin submitting on May 16. Payments for Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) are scheduled to begin on May 23, according to the department's head, Heather Korbulic.
The new filing system will be distinct from the old Unemployment Insurance (UI) system and will enable the public to file for PUA benefits in a more efficient manner. Claimants will have access to a specialized call center for all PUA-related inquiries via a new toll-free number: 1-800-603-9681. The PUA program is one of the provisions of the federal CARES Act that provides unemployment compensation to independent contractors and others who have previously been unable to qualify for standard unemployment insurance payments.

Employers And Agents
This registration is not applicable to claimants seeking Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA).
Register as this account type on behalf of your business or as an agent for another business with a valid Power of Attorney. Here, you'll find industry statistics, labor market data, and job candidates for your firm. Additionally, you may post job opportunities online and apply for the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC).
Provider
This registration is not applicable to claimants seeking Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA).
If you are a training provider and desire to enter or update your available courses for usage in the system, create this account type. After submitting a new account request, you will be able to add information about your courses, such as fees, timetables, and credentials. Additionally, providers may apply for WIOA accreditation for specific courses.
Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) Out-Of-State Staff
This registration is for Out-of-State WOTC State Coordinator Staff. Only Out-of-State personnel responsible for processing WOTC applications inside their own state should seek access to this system. This User will be able to create and examine their own requests for benefit verification.
Register as this type only if you are a WOTC State Coordinator or a member of their staff who needs to verify an Applicant's benefits obtained in this state and the Applicant has relocated to your state. All other requests for registration will be refused.

Multiple steps that count toward meeting the job search requirements include, but are not lim ited to the following:

Until further notice, out-of-state claimants will be forced to register for employment services in their state. Union workers who satisfy the following requirements are exempt from the employment search obligation under the normal UI program:
- Claimant is an active member of a union with a hiring hall.
- Claimant must submit the name of the union and the expiration date of the union dues.
- Waiver is only permitted in the case of a hiring hall union.
Conclusion
In Nevada, unemployment insurance fraud is a felony. Fraud is defined as making any false statement in connection with a claim for benefits, purposefully withholding information in order to obtain benefits, failing to report all work and income during the week for which benefits are claimed, filing an unemployment claim while incarcerated, or allowing another person to file a claim on your behalf while incarcerated and failing to disclose your incarceration, or filing a claim under a different name and/or Social Security Number then your own.
