Non-profit and managed entirely by volunteers, the Washington Independent Review of Books publishes book reviews online. What Is Washington Independent Review Of Books?

Founded by volunteers, the Washington Independent Review of Books administers a website for book reviews. It was started by a group of DC-area authors. Eighteen volunteers and over forty editors run the website, which receives sixteen thousand page views a month and nearly forty-one thousand unique visitors.

It also includes a literary calendar for the Washington D.C. region, a podcast series, and Grace Cavallieri's occasional poetry section. There aren't many book reviews in the traditional media anymore.

A group of writers in the DC area started The Independent because they didn't like how few book reviews there were. They've used the skills of more than two hundred writers and editors in the Washington area and across the country to do this.

These reviewers give the reader a quick summary of what they found. This includes a good description of the subject as well as its overall point, argument, or goal.

They also, and more importantly, give a critical review of the content. Here, they talk about how the work you're reviewing made you think, how it worked or didn't work, and how it changed your understanding of the issues at hand.
