One American woman has filed a lawsuit against L'Oréal, alleging that the company's chemical hair straightening products caused her to get cancer. Dove's Volume and Fullness Dry Shampoo, Nexxus' Refreshing Mist, Suave Professionals' Refresh and Revive, and Dove's Fresh Coconut Dry Shampoo are just a few examples.
Benzene causes cancer in humans. The recall notice states that exposure to benzene, whether via inhalation, ingestion, or skin contact, may lead to diseases such as leukemia and blood cancer. When contacted for comment, Unilever did not provide a response right away. In May 2021, a company called Valisure in New Haven, Connecticut found benzene in these items. This led to the recalls.

Spray-on dry shampoo has already been called out as an issue, so this isn't the first time it's come up. After reading about Valisure's results, P&G decided to put their whole line of aerosol products through tests. The Pantene and Herbal Essences dry shampoos were recalled in December due to possible benzene contamination, the business said at the time.
More than 30 aerosol spray haircare products, including numerous dry shampoos and dry conditioners, were recalled by Procter & Gamble (PG) last year due to possible benzene contamination. P&G issued a similar recall for more than a dozen aerosol deodorants and sprays under the Old Spice and Secret brands last year due to concerns that they may contain benzene.
Furthermore, L'Oréal, a cosmetics firm, is being sued by other entities because their chemical hair straightening products cause women to develop uterine cancer.
