The "ghost with the most" is finally getting his next big moment, putting to rest what may have been one of the most talked-about movie ideas ever. The long-awaited sequel to Tim Burton's 1988 classic "Beetlejuice," "Beetlejuice 2," will come out in September 2024. Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder are said to be back in the new movie, and "Wednesday" and "Scream VI" star Jenna Ortega is also said to be in it.
Tim Burton's famous movie Beetlejuice has been out for 35 years, and there have been talks of a sequel pretty much ever since. Adam and Barbara Maitland, played by Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis, have just died.
In the original movie, they try to get the Deetzes, played by Catherine O'Hara and Jeffrey Jones, to leave their house by scaring them. After their efforts fail, they hire Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton), a self-proclaimed "bio-exorcist" whose tricks endanger both the Maitlands and Lydia (Winona Ryder), the daughter of the Deetz.
The movie led to a number of spinoffs, including an animated series that ran from 1989 to 1991, a few computer games, and a well-received Broadway musical that opened in 2019 and will reopen in April 2022.
Since it came out, Beetlejuice has had such a big effect on people that it's hard to think there hasn't been a sequel yet. Plans seem to be finally going forward after 35 years of starting and stopping. Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder are said to be back in the new movie, and "Wednesday" and "Scream VI" star Jenna Ortega is also said to be in it.
"Beetlejuice" starred Keaton, Ryder, Alec Baldwin, and Geena Davis. It was a dark, funny, and original story that became a critical and financial hit, spawning cartoons and a Broadway musical that just closed.
The cast was a big part of the success of the first movie. Keaton played a fast-talking, very inappropriate ghost who tried to take advantage of the "recently deceased" Maitlands (Baldwin and Davis) and the new people who moved into their old house.
Ryder's spooky Lydia Deetz, the daughter of the tenants, has one of the best first scenes of any character in "Beetlejuice." This was only her third movie role at the time. As Lydia's stepmother, Delia Deetz, Catherine O'Hara, who won an Emmy for her part in "Schitt's Creek," made a name for herself.
People have talked about a possible sequel for years, and Ryder thought "it would be great if it happened, if it was the right circumstances."Burton and Keaton both hinted that a second movie could happen as early as 2013.
In the first "Beetlejuice," the ghosts of a dead couple are bothered by a horrible family who has moved into their house. In Beetlejuice, the couple pays a bad ghost to get them out of the house. The movie stars Geena Davis, Winona Ryder, Alec Baldwin, Jeffrey Jones, and Catherine O'Hara.
"Beetlejuice" made $74.7 million and was the basis for a stage show that was nominated for a Tony Award. The show ran on Broadway for four years, with a break during the pandemic. It closed in January.
Beetlejuice is coming back to the movies next year, whether or not you say his name three times. Warner Bros. says that "Beetlejuice 2" will come out in theaters on September 6, 2024. It comes out on the same day as "Blade," a Marvel movie based on a comic book starring Mahershala Ali.
Other than that, there isn't much else planned for release in the coming weeks. Warner Bros. has had hits over Labor Day weekend in the past with "It" and "It: Chapter 2," as well as "The Nun."
