Advanced Micro Devices, through its President and CEO Lisa Su, announced the new AMD Ryzen 7000Series in an event at Austin, Texas, on Aug. 29, 2022.
The 52-year-old CEO said that the upcoming series is part of the company’s “ambitious goals.”
As the third quarter of the year concludes, AMD shall introduce to the public what Su claimed as the “next generation of Ryzen processors that will push the envelope for gamers, creators, and enthusiasts.”
The new “Zen 4” architecture powers AMD’s latest lineup of desktop processors.
And what does AMD aim for with their next gen Ryzen 7000 Series? For it to be “the fastest CPU for gamers while delivering the most compute for creators,” according to Su.

Joining Su in the announcement was Mark D. Papermaster, AMD’s chief technology officer (CTO) and executive vice president (EVP) for Technology and Engineering.
Speaking after Su, he started his presentation by telling the audience about AMD’s goals, which the company will try to achieve through its “Zen 4” and the Ryzen 7000 Series.
CTO-EVP Papermaster said:
We set a goal to return AMD to sustain high performance CPU delivery.
Now AMD can never go wrong with that. Afterall, CPU is widely referred to as the core - the heart - of the computer.
Papermaster added that AMD saw how gamersand content creators “thrive on performance.” The company’s Zen processors aid in fulfilling their needs.
The AMD Ryzen 7000 desktop CPUs will be launched on September 27, 2022.

The Ambitious AMD Ryzen 7000

Staying true to the company tagline “together we advance,” AMD started to take things a notch higher.
As CEO Su stated:
We focused on a new CPU core design that combines both leadership performance and leadership energy efficiency.
With that said, Su proudly declared that the AMD Ryzen 7000 Series is the first CPU for desktop computers that will be in 5 nanometers (NM).
In terms of nanometers, the table below shows how AMD have progressed through the years beginning 2019 when the first Zen series debuted:
Zen SeriesNanometers (NM)
“Zen 2” (July 2019)7nm
“Zen 3”7nm
“Zen 3” 3D V-Cache6nm
“Zen 4”5nm
“Zen 4” 3D V-Cache5/4nm
“Zen 4c”/4nm
“Zen 5”4nm
“Zen 5” 3D V-Cache4/3nm
“Zen 5c”3nm
Comparing its performance to AMD Zen 3 and Ryzen 5000 (launched on October 8, 2020), in the new “Zen 4:”
  • 13 percent more IPC (interprocess communication)
  • maximum frequency set at 5.7 GHz (800 MHz higher)
  • 29 percent higher when it comes to total single thread performance
The company will be launching four AMD Ryzen 7000 CPUs next month. The table below shows basic information about each of them:
AMD Ryzen 7000 Series Desktop ProcessorsBasic Specifications
AMD Ryzen™ 9 7950X16-core; 32-thread; 4.5 GHz base clock (up to 5.7 GHz); 80MB cache
AMD Ryzen™ 9 7900X12-core; 24-thread; 4.7 GHz base clock (up to 5.6 GHz); 76MB cache
AMD Ryzen™ 7 7700X8-core; 16-thread; 4.5 GHz base clock (up to 5.4 GHz); 40MB cache
AMD Ryzen™ 5 7600X6-core; 12-thread; 4.7 GHz base clock (up to 5.3 GHz); 38MB cache
The AMD Ryzen 9 7950X and 7900X both have a default thermal design power (TDP) of 170 watts (w). The TDP of 7700X and 7600X is 105w.
The AMD Ryzen 7000 processors can outperform its competitors.
For example, in terms of its performance in relation to content creation, the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X processor is better than its competitor by up to 57 percent.
