Angle’s DC Luncheon Not Sitting Well With Some Tea Partiers
When a conversation between Nevada GOP Senate candidate Sharron Angle and third-party challenger Scott Ashjian was leaked over the weekend, Angle’s comment that “Republicans have lost their standard, they’ve lost their principle” risked alienating some of her biggest backers in Washington. Now that she’s in Washington today raising money at a $500-per-person fundraiser at the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) headquarters, however, she’s potentially turning off some of the Tea Party faithful who fear that she’s sold out.
“She’s no different than Harry Reid,” Ashjian told Ben Smith when asked about the fundraiser today. “In the beginning I did support Sharron Angle. After she won, she had to adapt to the views of the Republican Party, which she did.”
As a third-party candidate, of course, Ashjian has his own motivations for getting on Angle’s case about the fundraiser. But if his sentiments are at all shared by other Tea Party faithful in the state, it could be a real blow to Angle’s power base.
