Holy instant gratification! SurveyUSAalready has polling data on public reaction on whether Friday’s presidential debate should be suspended. They surveyed 1,000 Americans. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.2 percent.
Reasonprovides a summary:
The first debate between John McCain and Barack Obama is scheduled to take place in two days. Should the debate be held as scheduled? Should the debate be held, but the format changed to focus on the economy? Or, should the debate be postponed?

Is the right response to the turmoil on Wall Street to suspend the campaigns for president? To continue the campaigns as though there is no crisis? Or, to re-focus the campaigns with a unique emphasis on the turmoil on Wall Street?

If Friday’s presidential debate does not take place, would that be good for America? Bad for America? Or would it make no difference?

You could ask the questions another way, and the second question doesn’t really apply to either candidate — they were talking about the crisis today, for example.
But the first read is that about one in 10 people agree with McCain. It simply doesn’t seem like presidential debates fit into the category of unreasonable political activity during a crisis.
It doesn’t look like the American people are with Sen. John McCain on this one.
