Republicans will get their first chance to reduce the Democrats’ majority early in the year, with a special election for the seat of the retiring Rep. Neil Abercrombie (D-Hawaii). The district voted for the Obama-Biden ticket by 42 points, but a combination of factors — an open primary against multiple Democrats, Djou’s long-running campaign, his electoral base in Honolulu — have made GOP strategists cautiously optimistic about winning a huge symbolic victory against the president.
