CARTAGENA, Colombia — Sen. John McCain appearedon ABC’s "Good Morning America" from South America and echoed some of the statements he made last night at a press conferencewith Colombian President Alvaro Uribe on cooperative anti-drug trafficking efforts between the United States and Colombia. He cited the increased street price of cocaine as evidence of the success of drug eradication programs, like crop-spraying.
McCain is scheduled to pay a visitto a Colombian port today to see the front-lines of the drug war for himself. But with tens of billions of dollars spentfighting the so-called "war on drugs" each year, is marginally increasing the price of drugs on U.S. streets the best we can hope for?
