Good News for House Dems on Health Care
The Congressional Budget Office estimates that the health reform bill unveiled today by House Democrats comes in under the $900 billion, 10-year threshold set earlier this year by the White House. TPMDC has more:
“„At $894 billion, the bill’s 10 year cost comes in a hair under President Obama’s $900 billion red line. But, more politically and substantively important, the bill is projected to reduce the deficit in both the first 10 years and the second 10 years, just as Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) told me. [...]
“„CBO projects that the House bill will bring insurance to 36 million more Americans, leaving 18 million people under the age of 65–and 12 million citizens–without health care. According to CBO, “the share of legal nonelderly residents with insurance coverage would rise from about 83 percent currently to about 96 percent.”
