American Farm Bureau Federation on Lincoln: ‘We Couldn’t Have Handpicked’ a Better Chairman
Alexandra pointed out here last week that Sen. Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark.), newly promoted to head the Senate Agriculture Committee, has been raking in the dollars from Big Ag this year, tallying at least $306,500 in the past eight months alone, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. That figure puts her well above anyone else on Capitol Hill in terms of farm donations, and already trumps the $252,000 she pulled in from the industry in the three years prior to 2009.
Yesterday, The Hill ran the understatement of the year from Mary Kay Thatcher, director of public policy for the American Farm Bureau Federation.
“„We are very happy. She is a real believer in agriculture and is going to fight for it.
“We couldn’t have handpicked a chairman better than this,” Thatcher added.
As many have pointed out, however, what’s good for the farm industry, isn’t necessarily what’s good for taxpayers.
