When asked for her reaction to Tina Fey’s portrayal of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin on “Saturday Night Live,” McCain campaign adviser Carly Fiorina told MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell today that the lampooning was, you guessed it, “sexist.”
Here’s the full quote:
“„“I think [Fey] looked a bit like [Palin]. I think, of course, the portrait was very dismissive of the substance of Sarah Palin. So, in that sense, they were defining Hillary Clinton as very substantive and Sarah Palin as totally superficial. I think that continues the line of argument that is disrespectful in the extreme, and yes, I would say, sexist, in the sense that just because Sarah Palin has different views than Hillary Clinton does not mean she lacks substance. She has a lot of substance.”
Of course, Palin reportedlythought the skit was “quite funny.” In fact, it wasn’t so long ago that Sen. John McCain saw the humor in a little good-natured — and in his case, self-deprecating— ribbing on the late-night program.
Note to McCain campaign: the sexism angle never had legs, and it’s now getting old.
