Byrd Said to Be ‘Responding Well’ to Staph Treatment
Here’s the statement just out of the office of Sen. Robert Byrd (D), the 91-year-old West Virginian who was hospitalized a few weeks back for a “minor infection:”
“„According to his doctors, Senator Byrd developed a staph infection during his initial hospitalization for treatment for a minor infection. This, in turn, has delayed his departure from the hospital at this time. Doctors have been treating him with antibiotics for the infection and he has been responding well. There has been no additional indication as to when he will be released from the hospital.
Democratic leaders are sure to be watching Byrd’s recovery for more reasons than one. With 59 Democrats in the upper chamber — and with no end in sight to the Senate battle in Minnesota — they’ll need all the help they can get to pass the big-issue policy priorities they hope to wrap up before their scheduled August break.
