While email and blogs do heavy lifting on the campaign trail, both parties are experimenting with leaner communication platforms, hitting voters in the “abbreev” lingo of text messages and the irreverent one-liners of twitter
This week, a new writer on twitter, FakeSarahPalin, has drawn an influential following of politicos and media types. She has more than 1,600 people tracking her every tweet, which usually skewer Alaska Gov. Palin and Republicans with glee. That’s double the twitter users for TheFix, a top Washington Post blog that has been around longer.
I just caught up with the brains behind FakeSarahPalin — the writer wants to remain anonymous, but says FSP is not a paid political operative — for an exclusive interview.
The CAPS may be tough on the eyes, but that’s how they roll on twitter:
TWI: Hi Fake Sarah Palin, thanks for doing this interview with the Washington Independent. How did you get [so many] followers so quickly on Twitter? Are you trying to manage your image by twittering with political and media people?
FSP: I am just trying to control the liberal media. Sometimes they get things so confused. THIS ELECTION IS SO IMPORTANT AND HISTORICAL and it would be a shame if the liberals try and mess it up. MY HAND IS ON THE PULSE OF AMERICA!
TWI: You’ve been trying to engage Obama’s official twitter account, like your recent note* “Hey, @BarackObama! Don’t cha wish your VP was hot like me? Don’t cha? ;)”* How’s that going?
FSP: LOL. I mean it is soooo weird right: John always like… looks at me and thinks I can’t tell, and Cindy and I have such a fun relationship. She called me a dilletante last night and I was all sad that I didn’t invite her to my dilletante party. THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN SOOO MUCH FUN. Her compassion pills are sooo awesome. ANYWAY, Barack knows he loves me. I mean OMG IF HE HAD MY EXPERIENCE MAYBE HE WOULD BE DOING BETTER IN THE POLLS!
TWI: You recently posted “Of course he vetted me. HE IS A VETERAN! THAT IS WHAT HE DOES.” But what do you make of the criticism that people don’t know much about you — including Sen. McCain – and that you’re not ready to be commander in chief?
FSP: I AM READY. HERE ARE THE FACTS:
- I was supreme allied commander of Alaska. I HAVE DEFENDED AMERICA FROM BEARS AND WOLVES AND OTHER TERRORISTS/IRAQIS for nearly 21 months.
B. I have been serving as co-chief executive of my family WHICH IS GROWING EVERY DAY lol for gosh since I was in high school.
- MY OFFICE IN ALASKA IS CLOSER TO RUSSIA THAN ILLINOIS. Though I have never been there I have gained valuable political experience by defending our borders from two countries. AND THE WOLF TERRORISTS.
TWI: How many little known facts about Palin are there? eg “Little known fact: I once crashed a glass ceiling in my snowmobile:
FSP: PEOPLE NEED TO UNDERSTAND THAT I AM REALLY REALLY REALLY READY TO LEAD AND THEY’RE GOING TO LEARN THAT TONITE. (nomination night) ZOMG HI MOM!
