Pork, No! Astroturf, Yes!
The Republican National Committee passes along a local news write-up of an anti-stimulus protest in Denver that brought together hundreds of party operatives, moms with children in tow, anti-illegal-immigration activists and self-described libertarians, as well as the people who are to anti-Obama activism what the 9/11 Truthers were to anti-Bush protests.
“„Another man stood in the middle of the crowd after the rally shouting things such as: “And by the way, Obama, where’s your birth certificate?”
The pictures reveal a smallish crowd that’s nonetheless impressive—how often do you see these sorts of protests in the post-Ron Paul era?—until you realize thatthe event was sponsored by Americans for Prosperity, the six-year-old small government group funded by energy interests and really quite skilled at displays of psuedo-populist activism.Remember the hot air balloon that floated around swing states last year, making the case against “global warming hysteria?” That was them.
