Following up on Matt’s post— and correcting my earlier one— notice how the last clause of President Obama’s statement about the first meeting with many members of his national security team is ” … we will undertake a full review of the situation in Afghanistan in order to develop a comprehensive policy for the entire region.” That’s because early reports of the meeting’s agenda were incorrect. I’ve confirmed with U.S. Forces-Afghanistan that Gen. David McKiernan, commander of U.S. and allied forces in Afghanistan, that the commander didn’t participate in the meeting, and was on travel in Europe at the time.
