Here is some news coming out of Alabama, from the Birmingham News: A former Justice Department official has said local governments should enact their own laws to address illegal immigration. Kris Kobach, who served as chief adviser on immigration and border secutiry to former U.S. attorney general John Ashcroft , said there are several areas in which states may pass laws, including preventing undocumented immigrants from obtaining driver licenses.
According to the newspaper account:
Illegal immigrants should not be allowed to drive, Kobach said, because they often come from underdeveloped countries and have little to no experience in driving a car.
"So they come here and start driving and people die," he said.
Well, a picture is worth a thousand words, so here, to illustrate how people in underdeveloped countries are not used to cars, we provide some pictures:
Mexico (D.F.): One, Two, Three, Four, Five
Mexico (Monterey): One, Two
El Salvador (San Salvador )
Dominican Republic (Santo Domingo )
Peru (Lima )
Colombia (Bogota )
No pictures from Brazil are included, as there are relatively few Brazilians in the U.S., but here are two photos of a few cars from Argentina (Buenos Aires): One, Two
But those are of all cars in the cities. For supreme, beyond-industrial-strength truck driving, there is no place like Bolivia’s Road of Death.
Hey. Mr. Kobach, take a spin down that road and let us know how it went.
