2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards 9% Rise In Viewers - Only Clips And Pre-Recordeed Video Airs

Just one day after Drew Barrymore quit as host of the awards show to support striking writers, MTV switched from a live event to a pre-recorded show for its yearly awards. Still, Nielsen data shows that 1.8 million people watched the show on Sunday across all simulcasts. This is a 9% increase from the 2022 show.
Even though there were a few last-minute problems, more people watched the 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards than they did the year before. MTV said on Monday that the 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards had more viewers than the 2022 event, both total and in the key 18-49 age group.
Last year, 1.6 million people watched the event on different channels. This year, 1.8 million people did, which is a 9% increase. Last year, the show got a 1.27 rating in the demo. This year, it got a 1.28 rating.
And if you're interested in less important numbers, MTV says that these watchers "consumed" a total of 516 million minutes, which is a 5% increase from last year. Even the number of individual votes for the different awards went up by 80%, to 77.7 million. Paramount also says that "total minutes consumed" for the show were 516M. Pedro Pascal was the biggest winner of the night, taking home three awards. He won Best Hero, Best Duo with co-star Bella Ramsey, and Best HBO Series for The Last of Us. The cast of Vanderpump Rules also won, getting the popcorn award for Best Realy On-Screen Team during the "Scandoval." Jenna Ortega, Taylor Swift, and Selena Gomez were some of the other winners of the night.
Even though the MTV Movie & TV Awards did not air live this year. The parent business of MTV, Paramount Global, said on Friday that the annual event will be changed to a taped special.
