We’re underway! Sen. Carl Levin (D-MI), Armed Services Committee chairman, is signaling that it’s going to be a love-in. “Everyone on this committee” recognizes that Iraq service requires “commitment and sacrifice” from everyone, and especially from Petraeus and Odierno.
Levin says the “new tactical approach” of the surge brought about “some stability” in Iraq, thanks to Petraeus and “his able partner” Odierno. “Regardless of one’s view of the wisdom” of the war “we owe Gen. Petraeus and Gen. Odierno a debt of gratitude… and our troops are better off for the leadership and dedication these two generals provide.” Wow.
Also, a friend emails to say John McCain is skipping the hearing for an appearance on Ellen. Can that be right?
