Iowa Democratic Party Chairwoman Sue Dvorskyhad a few things to say Sunday in advance of Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s Iowa appearance.
The full statement released by the IDP is as follows:
Sue Dvorsky
After the hype of Governor Perry’s announcement yesterday, as he makes his first trip to Iowa tonight, I think Iowans will be disappointed to find nothing more than another Texas governor who is anxious to take our country back to the same failed economic policies that would erode middle class security and hurts seniors.
As Governor, Rick Perry set the bar when it comes to letting the special interests set their own rules. During his tenure he has given out billions in state contracts to his campaign contributors, while helping big corporations like energy companies avoid playing by the same rules as everyone else. In Rick Perry’s Texas there are two sets of rules — one for big corporate special interests and one for everyone else.
Rick Perry’s record is clear: he is in lockstep with the far right tea party wing of the Republican Party. He endorses the extreme and disastrous plans of the Tea Party Republicans to end Medicare as we know it, cut spending for education and eliminate investments in vital programs that help create jobs and move our country forward.
We know where Rick Perry and the rest of the GOP field’s priorities lie – in helping corporations and the wealthiest Americans at the expense of the middle class, seniors and young people. The Republican candidates have pledged their allegiance to the extreme Tea Party wing of the Republican party, not the American people, and that is not the type of leadership the people of Iowa or America need or want.
While Rick Perry adds one more voice to the out of touch tea party agenda, we will continue our work to ensure President Obama is reelected next year so he can continue moving our country forward.
Perry, U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmannand former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorumwill appear Sunday evening at a fundraising dinner for the Black Hawk County Republicans.
