Blackwater: Take That San Diego

Jul 31, 2020177.4K Shares2.5M Views
The San Diego Union-Tribune reportsthat a district court will allow Blackwater to open a firing range outside of San Diego, despite loud objections by San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders. The firing range is part of a $400 millioncontract the Pentagon recently rewarded Blackwater to start a Navy training center.
Sanders says he had no idea that the notorious private security company was behind the construction of a 61,600 sq. ft. warehouse in a corporate park right next to the Mexican border. Blackwater had registered for city permits under the name Southwest Law Enforcement. Blackwater/Southwest Law Enforcement responded by calling for a temporary restraining order against the city of San Diego. They said they had the permits and needed to start fulfilling their government contract (the warehouse includes a shooting range, simulated war ship, and classrooms).
The firing range controversy shows yet again that while the public isn’t crazy about Blackwater the federal government can’t stop depending on them. The New York Times recently reportedthat when the FBI went to Baghdad to investigate alleged Blackwater criminal activities they were protected by Blackwater security guards. Who’s going to stop this? Apparently not the city of San Diego.
