Reports: Air Force Officials Asked to Resign

The Air Force is booting its top officials, according to reports today from InsideDefense.com, a defense trade publication, and the Air Force Times. Chief of Staff Gen. Michael Moseley, given the choice to resign or be fired, chose the former after a meeting with top Pentagon officials this morning, the reports said. Air Force Sec. Michael Wynne is soon to follow.
According to the Air Force Times:
The stunning development follows a series of high-profile scandals and disagreements between Air Force leadership and [Defense Sec. Robert] Gates in the past year, during which both the Pentagon and congressional leadership have increasingly expressed frustration about the Air Force’s top bosses.
Asked about the news at a press conference this morning, White House press secretary Dana Perino divulged little, though the exchange with a reporter was certainly entertaining.
Perino: I’d have to let DOD make a personnel announcement about DOD personnel. It would not be appropriate to do it from here.
Reporter: How long have you been aware of this?
Perino: I don’t think that really matters.
Reporter: Yes, it does.
Good to know that White House press secretaries haven’t lost any of their signature non-responsiveness, even in the wake of the Scott McClellan tell-all.
