Ann Romney, wife of GOP presidential hopeful and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, will be in Marion at noon on Wednesday to attend a luncheon at the Linn County GOP Headquarters alongside newly selected Iowa Senate candidate Cindy Golding.
Notice of Romney’s upcoming Iowa tour was circulated by her husband’s campaign. In addition to Golding, Ann Romney is expected to help Iowa Rep. Linda Miller and Dallas County Recorder Chad Airhart with by appearing at fundraisers for their campaigns.
Shortly after Golding was selected through a special nominating convention by Linn County Republicans to serve as their candidate in an upcoming special election, U.S. Rep. Michelle Bachmann offered her assistance to the campaign. The offer was refused.
The Nov. 8 special election was prompted by a decision by Democrat Swati Dandekar to vacate her District 18 seat and accept a gubernatorial appointment to the Iowa Utilities Board. Because Democrats hold a one-seat majority in the Iowa Senate, and Republicans hold the Governor’s Office and the Iowa House, the race is high stakes.
Golding will face Democratic candidate Liz Mathis on the ballot.
Details of Romney’s upcoming swing through Iowa, as well as other upcoming political events, can be found on The Iowa Independent’s Factbook calendar.
