Stabenow amasses war chest for 2012 campaign
As potential challenger after potential challenger decides against challenging her in 2012, Sen. Debbie Stabenow raised $1.5 million in the second quarter of the year and has $4 million on hand for next year’s senatorial election.
Only six months ago the conventional wisdom was that Stabenow was vulnerable in 2012 and a number of high-profile names publicly flirted with the possibility of challenging her. But over the past few months all of those potential candidates — Terri Lynn Land, Pete Hoekstra, Thad McCotter, Saul Anuzis — have decided not to run against her.
Former Kent County Probate Judge Randy Hekman and Roscommon businessman Peter Konetchy are the only declared candidates in the race. We’ll find out how much money they’ve raised on Friday, the deadline for filing second quarter campaign finance reports. But it certainly won’t be anywhere near the money the incumbent has.
