Governor Rick Snyder’s northern Michigan representative used his official e-mail to encourage local government officials to attend a fundraiser for the Grand Traverse Republican Party.
The Traverse City Record Eaglereports that Greg Andrews, the governor’s Marquette-based representative, e-mailed local governments an invitation to the Governor’s Breakfast. The event is scheduled for Saturday morning in Traverse City during the National Cherry Festival and the $25 dollar tickets benefit the local Republican Party.
Grand Traverse County Administrator Dennis Aloia forwarded the e-mail to Prosecutor Alan Schneider who said that he would not take action on the matter.
Schneider said a recent state Supreme Court decision determined that the use of even one taxpayer-funded keystroke for political fundraising violates state law, though it has to be a knowing violation.
Snyder spokeswoman Geralyn Lasher called the incident, “a very serious lack of judgement.”
“We will be looking at … correcting the situation,” she told the Traverse City paper.
