At this weekend’s gathering of Michigan republicans on Mackinac island, Mitt Romney — son of former Michigan Gov. George Romney — easily won the straw poll.
Mitt Romney cruised to victory in the Mackinac straw poll, easily besting Rick Perry among the Michigan Republicans who gathered for the weekend conference.
Romney took 51 percent of the vote and Perry 17 percent. Herman Cain won 9 percent to come in third and Ron Paul finished in fourth with 8 percent.
Romney won the same poll in 2007 and went on to win the Republican primary here in 2008.
