The Michigan unemployment report for August is out and the results, while predictable, are more bad news for a state economy that hasn’t seen consistent job growth in years. Michigan’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased in August by three-tenths of a percentage point to 11.2 percent, according to data released today by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget (DTMB).

Michigan’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased in August by three-tenths of a percentage point to 11.2 percent, according to data released today by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget (DTMB). Total employment fell by 21,000 in August while the number of unemployed rose by 15,000. The state’s labor force recorded a 7,000 reduction over the month. Michigan’s unemployment rate was a little over two percentage points above the U.S. August rate of 9.1 percent.
