Mormon church releases statement in support of immigrants

There are many ways of looking at the immigration situation in the United States. A few days ago, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints issued a statement, which both notes the complexity of the situation and also boils it down to a few simple words… that all people should be viewed “as children of God.” You can see the statement and commentary on it here.

From the statement itself:
The bedrock moral issue for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is how we treat each other as children of God.
The history of mass expulsion or mistreatment of individuals or families is cause for concern especially where race, culture, or religion are involved. This should give pause to any policy that contemplates targeting any one group, particularly if that group comes mostly from one heritage.
