Iowa Democrats seek to end budget impasse
Senate Democrats will continue their budget hearings into a second week, officials said Monday.
Tuesday’s hearing will focus on property tax, which became a point of contention between Democrats and Gov. Terry Branstad, after Branstad said today he was calling for a proposed 60 percent tax on commercial properties, rather than the 75 percent proposed in the House omnibus bill. Democrats are opposed to this, as they say it will shift the tax burden on to homeowners.
The hearing will be at 10 a.m. in Room 22 at the state Capitol, lead by the Senate Ways and Means Committee.
