New report criticizes TransCanada on ethics, safety
A new report from the Friends of the Earth paints a terrible picture of the business practices of TransCanada, the company seeking to build a pipeline to carry tar sands crude oil from Alberta, Canada to the Gulf Coast of Texas.
The report is entitled “Dirty Business: How TransCanada Pipelines bullies farmers, manipulates oil markets, threatens fresh water and skimps on safety in the United States.”
In related news, the National Wildlife Federation and the Natural Resources Defense Council joined Sen. Ron Wyden in calling on the Federal Trade Commission to investigate alleged manipulation of the oil market by TransCanada to boost their profits. In a letter to the FTC chairman, the two groups argue that statements by TransCanada officials that the new pipeline will actually increase the price of oil in the U.S. warrant a full investigation.
