Foxx spokesman says there’s no room for post-Tucson rhetoric like that of … Virginia Foxx

Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.), North Carolina Rep. Virginia Foxx (R) told the Winston-Salem Journalthat members of Congress have not inspired any violence through incendiary rhetoric. She went on to assert that the shooter, Jared Loughner, was not a conservative, nor was he influenced by Republicans.
“„“This guy appears to be a communist. His beliefs are the liberal of the liberals. There is no evidence whatsoever that this man was influenced by Sarah Palin or anybody in the Republican Party. This man is not a conservative; he’s a fan of communism — that’s the opposite of conservatism.
Foxx’s comments were posted by the Journal on Monday, two days after the shooting. Early Wednesday afternoon, the Watauga Democrat posted a different sentiment from Foxx’s own spokesman, Aaron Groen.
The Watauga Democratreported:
“„U.S. Rep. Virginia Foxx is staying guarded in her response in the wake of the shooting of a fellow congresswoman as Washington, D.C., reviews security measures.
“„Foxx spokesman Aaron Groen said, “We are being extremely cautious and studious,” referring to the sensitive mood of the nation after a gunman killed six and wounded 14 others in Tucson, Ariz. Saturday. Among the victims was Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-8), who is reportedly recovering from a wound to the head.
“„Groen also said it was premature to address any of the political and rhetorical debates erupting in media outlets and on social media forums.
“„Jared Loughner has been charged with five felonies, including three murder counts, in the incident, and he could face the death penalty.
“„“We want to make sure there’s time for all the facts to come out and allow time to grieve,” Groen said.
“„Foxx isn’t worried about her personal safety and feels confident with existing security, he said. Foxx is known for being active in events across the Fifth District and still maintains a home in the Foscoe area.
“„“Right now, she’s most concerned with Rep. Giffords’ recovery and praying for the families of those who lost their lives,” Groen said.
Since the shooting of Giffords appeared to be an assassination, speculation about Loughner’s political beliefs began immediately following the shootings. And considering Giffords is a Democrat, much of that speculation centered around Loughner being a conservative, or at least sympathetic to conservative causes. Meanwhile, conservatives like Foxx and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee have claimed Loughner is a liberal. Nevertheless, there is only a limited amount of informationavailable on any kind of political leanings Loughner may have had, and friends of Loughner say he did not follow politics closely, meaning that bold statements about his motivations and partisan attachments are, indeed, premature.
