The Obama administration sent BP and other parties deemed responsible for the Gulf oil spill (Transocean, Andarko) a $62.6 million bill for the cleanup effort yesterday. It’s the seventh bill BP and the other companies have received so far. Including the most recent bill, the companies have been charged a total of $581 million.
The companies, according to the Obama administration, have already paid the first six bills, which totaled $518.4 million. The bills do not include compensating oil spill victims for damages associated with the spill. BP has set aside $20 billion for that process.
“„Responsible parties are financially liable for all costs associated with oil removal, including efforts to stop the leak at its source, reduce the spread of oil, protect the shoreline and mitigate damage to the public health or welfare.
The companies will likely continue to be charged for the cleanup. The statement says:
“„Federal response activities not subject to billing at this time, including future activities, will be billed to the responsible parties through subsequent invoices.
The statement does not list how much each company is being billed for cleanup.
