Some GOP figures are being coy about their 2012 presidential ambitions; others, like former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.), are broadcasting them loud and clear. Yesterday Santorum announcedthe creation of an Iowa Keystone Political Action Committee, the sole purpose of which seems to be helping conservatives win office in the crucial presidential primary battleground state:
“My federal PAC, America’s Foundation, has already assisted some candidates in the Hawkeye State, but I am eager to do more, and the Iowa Keystone PAC will help us do that,” Santorum, a Republican, said in a statement. “There are many strong conservatives running in Iowa and assisting them with financial support may help put them in the victory column come Election Day.”
In addition to pledging at least $25,000 in monetary support before Nov. 2, Santorum will make his sixth visit to the state in the past year. He’ll be in Cedar Rapids and Coralville on Oct. 13 and Davenport and Dubuque the next day.
