Ethics Panel Gives Free Pass to Burris

In a letter released today, the Senate Ethics Committee admonished Sen. Roland Burris (D-Ill.) for “actions and statements reflecting unfavorably upon the Senate” in connection to the senator’s actions during his appointment to the upper chamber last year.
The Committee found that you should have known that you were providing incorrect, inconsistent, misleading or incomplete information [...]

The Swift Hand of the Senate Ethics Committee

In January of 2008, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington filed a complaint with the Senate Ethics Committee against Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.). CREW wondered if a $2 million earmark Landrieu had showered on a children’s literacy company wasn’t inspired by a $30,000 fundraiser the company had held for the senator days earlier.

The bill [...]

Watchdog Files Ethics Complaint on McCain’s Gambling

An anecdote about a 2000 visit to a casino, recounted in a recent article in The New York Times that examined Sen. John McCain’s ties to the gambling industry, may have inadvertently created an ethics problem for the GOP presidential nominee. From The Times:

Attorney: Keating Five Demonstrated McCain’s Integrity

The McCain campaign today brought out the big guns to “set the record straight” about Sen. John McCain’s ties to Charles Keating, a central figure in the savings and loan crisis of the late 1980s and early 1990s.
On a McCain campaign-organized conference call with reporters, high-powered Washington lawyer and political fixer John Dowd defended McCain [...]
